The GMC which has got the approval of 100 MBBS seats in the year 2019 from NMC has now two batches but it continues to function from Janglat Mandi hospital. Officials working at the GMC said that they are facing a lot of problems in working at an erstwhile district hospital building due to space crunch. They said that many block structures have been already completed but the interior work is still pending which executing agency must clear at an earliest. Officials said that next year national medical college will conduct another inspection next year after which they will decide about the recognition to the college. "If JKPCC fails to speed up the work, there are chances that we may lose a chance of recognition," officials said. Principal GMC Anantnag Dr Showkat Jeelani told KNO that JKPCC has given the final deadline to complete all main campus buildings up to June 2021. He said they are facing a lot of problems due to space crunch at existing accommodation. "We are hopeful that JKPCC will further speed up work and hand over buildings before June," he said. Deputy General Manager JKPCC Er Mohammed Hussain said that work is going at full pace and this year all building campuses will be handed over to GMC. He said that due to the condition after August 2019 and Covid lockdown, the project got delayed, "otherwise it would have been completed earlier." "It is an Rs 133 crore project and campus will be equipped with all those facilities mentioned in DPR," Hussain said.
